NOTES - Medical - Simday 15

Medical Insurance and Hospital Costs

We all need it. Now, we can all have it.

Starting on Simday 16, SimPLAN Healthcare Insurance is in full effect. We want to thank Harper's Cove and Dr. Maya Deppiesse. It was Dr. Deppiesse who pioneered the requirements for this healthcare package. I have named our package, SimPLAN, because we now have a plan!

The SimPLAN breakdown:

A family will automatically have health insurance by paying $70 per rotation/per adult/elder and $30 per rotation/per child/teen/toddler/infant. (Adult is considered to mean Adult and Elder. A child is considered to mean under the age of 18.) This payment gives you healthcare coverage for a full rotation (2 simyears).

In addition to this fee, there will be a deductible that must be met before the insurance will cover the services. This deductible is $500 per family, not per person and paid when needed. Once you have paid your $500 deductible, the rest of your medical care for that rotation is paid for by your insurance company in total. If you fail to pay your deductible, half the medical care costs must come out of your pocket. If you don't have medical insurance, the entire medical care costs must come out of your pocket. However, you can apply for welfare - a one-time-only assistance that pays $1,000 for emergency healthcare.

There will also be a copay of $30 for all doctor visits. This copay is due whether you have met your deductible or not, and whether you have to stay in the hospital or not.

For example:

John and Jane Doe have paid $140 during Period 1 in order to have health insurance (that's $70 each). Jane goes into the hospital to have a baby. The hospital bill for her stay and labor and delivery equals $3,000. John and Jane pay $500 (the deductible), and their insurance covers the remaining $2,500. During that same period, John comes down with a mysterious illness and goes to the doctor, who then sends him to spend 2 days in the hospital. John pays a $30 copay to the doctor, but owes nothing for the hospital stay because the Doe's have already met their $500 deductible for the period.

I am confident that this plan will greatly benefit Simmington Hills and its residents. It will allow us the health care that we need without sending our residents in debt. If you have any questions about this new policy, please contact me at simmingtonhills@yahoo.com

*All insurance payments and deductibles should be sent to the Administration. All co-payments go to Dr. Trinity Dalton.

Simmington Hills Medical Center, has costs that were previously not made public. I am now releasing a breakdown of those costs for service. The Medical Center reserves the right to change these costs at any time.

These services are covered by SimPLAN:

Labor and Delivery - $3,000

Care for Illness or Injury (colds, viruses, bee stings, poison ivy) - Adults $770/simday - Child $625/simday
Emergency Room Care (unforseen injuries, near death injuries) - Adults $900 Child $800

NOTES - Medical - Simday 10

The hospital got it's first big case last night. Nick Michels was admitted for poisoning. I'm happy to have the medical facility in place to treat him. It was built just in time.

At this point, he's resting and his vitals are becoming more stable. I can't say more than this, the investigation is still underway. It's already been admitted to the paper that Sim'Ce Le Bon Red Wine was what he drank.

NOTES - Medical - Simday 5

At the present time, we have had no reported illnesses in Simmington Hills. I plan on opening a clinic within the next two periods (within 10 simdays.)

I realize that construction of a medical facility will have to be voted on by the Administration. Spokes Sim Cunningham is concerned about the costs of things. I'm willing to wait until that time, but we must be mindful that an outbreak of a dangerous virus could hit our town at any time. My suggestion would be to keep the size of the hospital small and simple. We can always build a bigger hospital as the population grows.

I have delivered one baby so far, and that was at the home of Tomika and Sabien Cunningham. I'm grateful that the birth was successful without any problems. If there were ever problems and the mother was not in good shape after delivering, Sims need to have an option of a hospital or clinic to send their loved ones to for some much needed rest and TLC.

I recently gained in my posession a top of the line surgical station that can be used in case of emergency surgery. However, again...I emphasize, I will need a facility to perform the surgery in.
